Dont Attack my MacBook Pro

November 15, 2006 ·

Somewhere between home and work this morning, someone bumped into me... I am sure I didnt drop my bag or do anything dumb like that (no, I was sober this time Andy, so I didnt get attacked by the pavement again). What is left is a massive prang on the corner of my lovely MacBook Pro. I just wanted to rant about it... since this baby is my main work and home computer, it does a lot of CF and CFEclipse work and should be treated with due respect ( I know, I know... its only a laptop, but hell, I dont even put stickers on it!)

It amazes that we can carry our bags around when we are drunk and nothing happens yet as soon as we are sober the damaged is caused.

Today will alway be remember as a dark day for macs!

Your cell phone goes crashin all over Croydons pavements, not as much as a scratch (that I noticed at least - it was dark though), but without noticing you got such dent in your beloved mac? I'm puzzeled :)

I just checked my phone, and its all intact... not even a scratch (in day light)

I tell you, the commuters in London are mean, I tells you... MEAN!

There is a conspiracy by other text editors to reduce the productivity of Mark. Their plan was not that successful as it only caused a superficial blow.

I smell a conspiracy. Oh wait, that is my coffee.

Sorry for the prang mate. Cheers, Teddy

Teddy from Snatch:
Turkish: I'm sorry, Mickey.
Mickey: Did ya do it? Then why are ya sorry?

Or Should it be
Teddy: I'm sorry, Mark.
Mark: Did ya do it? Then why are ya sorry?

There is ONE kinda good thing about it... I cant see it whilst I am using the laptop... is that a good thing? I mean.. its cosmetic and I am not looking at a big ugly dent so far

Maybe time )or too late) to check out the clear covers from SPeck. In clear and red... I did clear, very nice. Hopefully my MBP will not suffer such wounds....

Sorry yours did!!!

Could've been worse, could have caught fire ;-)

Not sure if those cases would have helped this! I do carry it in a neoprene case inside a leather bag, with a big fat dude as a bouncer.. (that be me then) and still I got it dented... GARRRR!

Bastard commuters...

The Speck is hard plastic. It's like a hard shell, two pieces that snap on. Very tough stuff, not that that helps :(

and yeah commuters suck. If you knew who it was you should whack him with the MBP, "try this dent on!"
• 11 Mark Drew // Sep 22, 2008 at 4:13 PM

I am actually tempted by the red cover, I could then put some nice stickers on it, such as a CFEclipse one (once I design it!)

And put cool funky things like "I code for Jack Daniels", that kind of thing...

I've got a Brenthaven bag for my 17" MacBook Pro. Its loaded with padding. Retails for about $179 US but I think I found it online somewhere for $129 US. Well worth it, if you ask me.
• 13 David Sirr // Sep 22, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Damn that's a pretty big dent! sure you didn't hit it on a doorway or something while in the bag?
i'm feeling your pain though, i still take off my watch before using my beautiful new macbook pro!
couldn't bear to scratch that smoooooth finish!

Should have bought a real computer instead of one of those toy ones for the IT illiterate.... ;oD

Can you tell I've had to do IT support for Macs and Mac users in the past and present?
• 15 Mark Drew // Sep 22, 2008 at 4:13 PM

@David: dammed sure I didnt hit it anywhere, I have a big enough belly to protect it from getting damaged... prefer damage to myself than to my laptop (ask Andy J about my "flying to the pavement" antics and you will know what I mean!). I also take my watch off before using it, also being one of these wierd people that wears a watch on their right hand, its annoying (I am not left handed neither)

@ Stephen: a Viao for example? with those plastic cases? that would have cracked and become unworkable? I have been in IT for a dammed long while and the MBP's are the best thing to happen IMHO.

lol - I was just messing with you Mark... hence the ;oD

> a Viao for example? with those plastic cases? that would have cracked and become unworkable?

I suspect your probably right.. Wouldn't recommend a Vaio personally. The screen is nice but the keyboard is awful and the suck the life out of a battery. (I have one here)

> I have been in IT for a dammed long while and the MBP's are the best thing to happen IMHO.
>
Ditto and I'm sure that the MBP is great for someone who can actually use a computer, but its the thousands of other Mac users that buy them because they are "pretty" and "easy to use" and then misuse them and quickly break them. Unfortunately, I seem to be on the receiving end of these users more often than not...

I completely understand, although (in my experience, which isnt a lot) I would have supposed that Mac's give you less trouble, the only thing that I have had to do to the other mac's here is help them connect to Exchange, the rest of the time its breezy (compared to the other Dells we have in the building)

Oh no...
Hey why don't you get a Hard Shell case for your protection.
worry free from scratches too. I bought blue one a month ago, and I loved the style.

Some time ago, I did need to buy a good car for my business but I didn't earn enough money and could not buy something. Thank God my mate suggested to take the loans; at reliable creditors. Thus, I did that and used to be satisfied with my car loan.
