CFEclipse and Eclipse 3.3

At CFUnited 2007, I did a couple of presentations showing CFEclipse, which at the end of the presentation I mentioned was actually running on Eclipse 3.3. Not bad going considering that Eclipse 3.3 was released on the day of my first presentation huh?

The issue now is getting everything REALLY working, I did a number of smoke tests and even did a whole presentation running Eclipse 3.3 but there are some things I want to tidy and other changes I want to make before I do a release (just doing a compatibility release seems a waste of time at the moment, considering the effort involved!)

So, what and when should you expect? Well, I am going to be checking in stuff this week, I only do checkins against an issue so I have to create the right ones (if they are not there). You should see more activity over at the CFEclipse Trac website. Also, if you are planning on adding a ticket to Trac, make sure there isnt one there already, I have spotted a few been adding about Eclipse 3.3 already, there is no need to add more!

I want to send out a big thank you to Dean Harmon as he did all the Eclipse 3.3 compatibility including the backwards compatibility stuff. Now, stop saying that Adobe does nothing to contribute!!!

So, there it is, a semi-official announcement... saying not much... but at least now you know.

Simpleness's Gravatar Hi Mark. Did you know of the existence of the Mylyn project (www.eclipse.org/mylyn)? It has a Trac connector with which you can retrieve and synchronize your tasks from trac.cfeclipse.org. If the trac connector doesn't work you should either do something about the Trac setup or use the Generic Web Connector (I'll give you the regexes I use)

Mark Drew's Gravatar Heya

I presume Mylyn is the released version of Mylar right? I was using Mylar for a while now.

I shall check it out now... (and the SVN plugin)

Big Mad Kev's Gravatar Thanks Mark and Dean,

No Mark if your wish list up to date? I'm feeling a CFE Appreciation day coming on

Chrisitan Ready's Gravatar I tried setting up Eclipse 3.3 on a couple of PCs running Win XP/Pro. For some reason, I kept getting errors trying to open up CF files. It would say something to the effect of "cannot open editor." I don't know if it's an Eclipse issue or a CFEclipse issue. Anyway, I had to switch back to 3.2 and reinstall CFEclipse to get back up and running again.

Anyone else have problems with 3.3?

Aaron Lynch's Gravatar Seems that there were some changes in 3.3 that broke CFEclipse. But, if we can use Mark's preso as evidence, the next CFEclipse release should fix that.

Thanks for the hard work Mark!

It was great meeting you at CFUnited,
Aaron

Michael White's Gravatar I had the same experience when I tried 3.3 and took the same action... went back to 3.22... No pressure Mark!

Michael White's Gravatar I tried to get you the macbook see-through red thingy and the ipod voice recorder from your wishlist but they wouldn't let me send those items to you, presumably because they were sold through third party sellers, so I got you the two Led Zepplin albums instead...

Robert Burns's Gravatar The release for 3.3 hasn't been published yet to the update site. To get a version working with 3.3, checkout the trunk from the SVN. Then open the Java perspective. Right click on the project and choose export. You should then have an option to output as a eclipse plugin/application. This will make the 1.3.1.5 jar file which you can use in 3.3. Sorry the instructions aren't thorough...but in a hurry. Hope this helps.

Simpleness's Gravatar Have a look at the active CFEclipse tickets in Trac at http://trac.cfeclipse.org/cfeclipse/report/1 and you'll see that ticket #300 addresses this issue. I posted a link to some documentation directing towards a solution.

The workaround is a nice one. Thanks for that, Robert.

Bonnie's Gravatar Hmmm, maybe someone can help me here. I am on Eclipse 3.1 and when I try to upgrade it just says there are no upgrades available. How do I get to 3.3? For that matter, why isn't it seeing that I need 3.2?

Mark Drew's Gravatar Because Eclipse ITSELF needs to be downloaded again, you get the download from http://www.eclipse.org

Bonnie's Gravatar Ugh! Ok, darnitall. I guess I was just in a hurry but it looks like I'll have to wait until there is a pretty little update available through my pretty little Update Manager in Eclipse. Can't wait! I guess I got over-eager after all the buzz at CFUnited. Good work Mark! BTW, good chat at the BOF too!
Phooey! Back to the previous Eclipse version for me.....
